Wow, can you believe it's been one year already? Here's to everyone involved in the Daily Grind and everyone who reads our comics. It's been a blast, thanks!
It was a bitch trying to wrangle everyone for the photo. (also: a fellow named Richard Guidry is missing because I can no longer find any of his comics on the WWW)
that's awesome! (yet sad as I would have liked to have been in the grind and failed terribly)
This seems less the time to post this question to you, but I need your help! I want to write a comic about RAP TUNES, or more specifically (or less specifically) simply about RAP. But I don't want to spend a hundred pages talking about Doug E Fresh and Grandmaster Flash... I'm struggling with it even though I've got so much to say! You're the only other cat I'd trust to slide me advice on how to... I dunno... Write this thing... Moreso I want it to be a continuing kind of thing I can put in minis, not just one strip about rap...
Hmmm...that sounds awesome! What's the angle you're going for? A series of bio strips about rappers? Or a fictional story about a rapper and his rise through the underground? Or what?
mmmm, definitly not fictional, that has too much perchant for wackness... I was thinking more along the lines of kind of a MUSIC RAG about CURRENT or NOT SO CURRENT hip hop... kind of a venue wheres I could talk about Mr Lif and Jeru the Damaja on the same page and get away with it. Like, the kind of place I could talk about hos no other genre of music could get away with a concept album like "Prince Among Thieves" or Masta Ace's "The Return" (or 'Disposable Arts" whatever it was called)
That kind of stuff...
I just want to create a source where you can read about REAL rap, and not in some cheesy hipster mag like the ones floating around Toronto that didn't give a shit about DOOM until Madvillainy dropped...
Yeah, I get it now. Have you ever read Robin Bougie's Cinema Sewer issues? To me, that right there is the perfect example of what I'm picturing for you, only he does movies instead of hip hop. His zine is an amazing mixture of homemade/underground feel, awesome comic art, and useful information.
No, I have not, and I'm somewhat of an asshole on the internet and I really regret not ordering it from Bougie once I started my STEADY JOB and moved back home, thusly able to shamble out of debt!
Actually, that journal style is really the way I'd want to handle it! I have seen some of the strips... I dunno, It would be cool if you wanted to slide something in! You seem to know the score better than I! Not to put you on the spot!
e-mail if you want to slide me anymore thoughts, they're always welcome! (thesach@gmail.com)
Haha, thanks! Then of course we have threads on the boards like that Webcomics Weightloss one right now with DJ vs. EVERYBODY. So juvenile and pointless!
I like how nearly everyone is blissed-out, except for Tom's Cat.

Great work, my good fellow. It's neat little things like this that help to bring everyone in the Grind together.
Warwolf is completely wasted :)
